Post-Game Self-Analysis
Is it simplified as "self-talk strategy" after a game?
The point is you need to disassociate yourself with the action to figure out what you did wrong and how to prevent it from happening in the future.
Wait to “calm-down” after a loss or bad game to analyze it.
1. It is important to let the bitter emotion and angry adrenaline subside to be able to properly analyze your performance. It is impossible to have a real self-talk right after a loss. It is ok to let it sting for a while. If you are competitive, you will feel “down” after your efforts mount in a loss.
2. After you calm down is when you plan your inner-game analysis; have a pen and paper or word processor.
Planning the In-Game Adjustments
Carefully review the replay of your mistakes/bad plays from that game.
Be sure to write down the things that you did right on those plays, how you set up, spread, raped, etc.
Then:
Write down specifically what you did wrong. (Be sure to pin-point and analyze what you need to do, to keep yourself from making those mistakes again)
Do not get frustrated or upset.
This is your “mental post-game adjustment time.”
Be more “scientific” in your analysis. (Shift your direct focus to what you should have done; more importantly what you would do to make the key adjustments in the future.)
Try to mentally see yourself making the error as well.
In developing a self-talk strategy after the game, the simple reality is if you do not come to grips with how you made those mistakes in the game, and then learn and adapt from those mistakes; the chance you will repeat those mistakes is high.
